RESUMO

INTRODUCTION: Follicular Dendritic Cell Sarcomas (FDCS)was first found in 1986; the specificity of the disease is its rarity, with an incidence of only 0.4%, numerous doctors for its lack of understanding, the accuracy of imaging diagnosis is not great, which is easy to delay the treatment. This article summarizes several characteristic imaging manifestations of FDCS to provide imaging physicians with an understanding of the imaging properties of this rare disease. When faced with complex cases, the radiologist can consider this disease and include it in the differential diagnosis. FDCS occurs mainly in lymph nodes, mainly in the head and neck. The main symptoms are fatigue, local pain, or painless mass. The treatment method is not uniform, but scholars agree that we should strive for the opportunity of surgery as much as possible. CASE PRESENTATION: This paper reported a case of FDCS with pelvic recurrence 3 years after surgery. The patient was suspected to have lymphoma by postoperative pathology in the local hospital, and it is recommended that the patient be reexamined regularly. A soft tissue mass was recently found again in the left pelvic cavity. After an enhanced CT examination, the radiologist was skeptical of the previous diagnosis of lymphoma. Subsequently, a needle biopsy was performed at Peking University Shougang Hospital. The pathological results rejected the prior diagnosis of lymphoma after consultation with additional hospitals, and the patient was diagnosed with FDCS. CONCLUSIONS: The imaging manifestations of FDCS lack absolute specificity, but it also has imaging characteristics, such as large areas of necrosis in the huge mass, rough mass calcification in the mass, enhanced scan showed "fast in and slow out" mode, and there were blood vessels in the tumor. FDCS mainly occurs in lymph nodes and is easily misdiagnosed as GIST, inflammatory myoblastoma, lymphoma, etc. Radiologists should continue to collect cases of this disease and include suspected cases in the differential diagnosis in clinical work.

RESUMO

Radiation-induced heart disease (RIHD) is a common radiotherapy complication. Reducing radiation exposure and post-irradiation antioxidant therapy are promising approaches. Here, a liquid metal-based core-shell nanomedicine (LMN) composed of a gallium core and a multifunctional polymeric shell with radiopaque, X-ray shielding, and X-ray-responsive antioxidation properties for preventive therapy of RIHD is developed. The liquid metal provides radiopaque properties to enhance X-ray and computed tomography imaging and attenuate radiation to prevent primary myocardial damage. Under X-ray radiation, cleavage of the diselenide bond on the polymeric shell results in the release of LMN and controlled antioxidation. In vitro and in vivo experiments have demonstrated that LMN significantly reduces myocardial injury and impaired cardiac function, stabilizes mitochondrial function, and inhibits myocardial fibrosis. This nanomedicine with radiographic contrast, radiation shielding, and responsive features provides a new strategy for the prevention of radiation-related diseases.

RESUMO

The potential risks of anti-cancer drugs such as capecitabine have attracted considerable attention due to their continuous release. Understanding the response of removal performance and protective mechanism to the presence of emerging contaminants is crucial for the application of anammox techniques in wastewater treatment. Capecitabine affected the nitrogen removal performance slightly in the activity experiment. Due to bio-adsorption and biodegradation, up to 64-70% of the capecitabine can be removed effectively. However, 10 mg/L of capecitabine significantly decreased the removal efficiency of capecitabine and total nitrogen at repeated load of capecitabine. Metabolomic analysis revealed the metabolites 5'-deoxy-5-fluorocytidine and alpha-fluoro-beta-alanine, while metagenomic analysis confirmed the biodegradation pathway and underlying gene distribution. The potentially protective mechanisms of the system against capecitabine were the increased heterotrophic bacteria and secretion of sialic acid. Blast analysis confirmed the presence of potential genes involved in the complete biosynthesis pathway of sialic acid in anammox bacteria, some of which are also found in Nitrosomonas, Thauera, and Candidatus Promineofilum.

RESUMO

Purpose: The most prevalent primary malignant tumor of CNS is glioma, which has a dismal prognosis. The theory of oxidative stress is one of the important theories in the study of its occurrence and development mechanism. In this study, the impacts of PCBP2 on glioma sufferers and the possible mechanisms were examined. Methods: Patients with glioma were obtained from May 2017 to July 2018. Quantitative PCR, microarray analysis, western blot analysis, and immunofluorescence were used in this experiment. Results: PCBP2 mRNA expression level and protein expression in patients with glioma were upregulated compared with paracancerous tissue. OS and DFS of PCBP2 low expression in patients with glioma were higher than those of PCBP2 high expression. PCBP2 promoted the progression and metastasis of glioma. PCBP2 reduced oxidative stress-induced apoptosis of glioma. PCBP2 suppressed the cGAS/STING pathway of glioma. PCBP2 protein interlinked with cGAS and cGAS was one target for PCBP2. METTL3-mediated m6A modification increases PCBP2 stability. Conclusion: Along the cGAS-STING signal pathway, PCBP2 decreased the apoptosis that oxidative stress-induced glioma caused, which might be a potential target to suppress oxidative stress-induced apoptosis of glioma.

RESUMO

RATIONALE: Desmoid-type fibromatosis is a rare benign mesenchymal neoplasm. Only 8% of desmoid-type fibromatosis develops in the abdominal cavity. The mesentery is seldom affected and gastrointestinal stromal tumors need to be considered in the differential diagnosis, particularly when imaging examination shows a tumor containing gases in the abdominal cavity. Only a few cases of gas-containing mesenteric desmoid-type fibromatosis have been reported in the literature. PATIENT CONCERNS: A 69-year-old male patient presented with hematochezia and intermittent upper abdominal pain. DIAGNOSIS: Contrast-enhanced computed tomography revealed a 3.9 × 3.6 cm gas-containing mass infiltrating the third portion of the duodenum. The tumor was heterogeneous, with cysts and air bubbles. It showed heterogeneous weak-to-mild enhancement in the solid part. Postoperative pathological examination confirmed a final diagnosis of mesenteric desmoid-type fibromatosis. INTERVENTIONS: The patient underwent surgical resection of intra-abdominal lesion. OUTCOMES: No evidence of local recurrence was noted during the 6 months of follow-up. LESSONS: Accurate preoperative diagnosis is difficult for an intra-abdominal gas-containing mass on computed tomography scan. The appearance of spiculated infiltrative margin suggests the diagnosis of desmoid-type fibromatosis. Further investigation of imaging evidence and treatment methods is necessary.

RESUMO

Diabetic kidney disease (DKD) is a common diabetes complication mainly caused by lipid toxicity characterized by oxidative stress. Studies have shown that adropin (Ad) regulates energy metabolism and may be an effective target to improve DKD. This study investigated the effect of exogenous Ad encapsulated in reactive oxygen species (ROS)-responsive nanocapsules (Ad@Gel) on DKD. HK2 cells were induced with high glucose (HG) and intervened with Ad@Gel. A diabetes mouse model was established using HG and high-fat diet combined with streptozotocin and treated with Ad@Gel to observe its effects on renal function, pathological damage, lipid metabolism, and oxidative stress. Results showed that Ad@Gel could protect HK2 from HG stimulation in vitro. It also effectively controls blood glucose and lipid levels, improves renal function, inhibits excessive production of ROS, protects mitochondria from damage, improves lipid deposition in renal tissues, and downregulates the expression of lipogenic proteins SEBP-1 and ADRP in DKD mice. In HG-induced HK2 cells or the kidney of DKD patients, the low expression of neuronatin (Nnat) and high expression of translocator protein (TSPO) were observed. Knockdown Nnat or overexpression of TSPO significantly reversed the effect of Ad@Gel on improving mitochondrial damage. In addition, knockdown Nnat also significantly reversed the effect of Ad@Gel on lipid metabolism. The results suggest that the effect of Ad on DKD may be achieved by activating Nnat to improve lipid metabolism and inhibit TSPO activity, thereby enhancing mitochondrial function.

RESUMO

Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs)-derived exosomes and microvesicles can effectively improve knee osteoarthritis. We found that microvesicles performed a superior effect on improving mitochondrial function in chondrocytes than exosomes, which may be related to the ability of microvesicles carrying active mitochondria to replace damaged ones in chondrocytes. This study investigated the therapeutic effect of direct mitochondrial transplantation (MT) on knee osteoarthritis. IL-1ß stimulated the osteoarthritis phenotype of rat chondrocytes, and the effect of BMSCs-derived mitochondria transplantation was observed in vitro. Knee osteoarthritis rat model was established by collagenase induction to observe the effect of intra-articular injection of mitochondria. Results showed that the mitochondria of BMSCs could be ingested by rat chondrocytes via co-incubation in vitro, and significantly improved osteoarthritis phenotype and mitochondrial function, and inhibited chondrocytes apoptosis. In vivo, BMSCs-derived mitochondria could be ingested by cartilage via intra-articular injection, ameliorated pathological cartilage injury, suppressed inflammation, inhibited chondrocytes apoptosis, and improved osteoarthritis phenotype. In addition, MT promoted mitochondrial biogenesis in chondrocytes by activating PGC-1α signaling. All above results suggest that BMSCs-derived mitochondria transplantation ameliorates knee osteoarthritis by improving chondrocytes mitochondrial dysfunction and promoting mitochondrial biogenesis.

RESUMO

Regulating local electron density by introducing single-atom is an effective strategy to improve the activity of heterogeneous photo-Fenton processes. Here N, P coordinated Fe and Ni single-atom catalysts on carbon nitrides (CN-FeNi-P) were prepared to activate H2O2 for contaminant mineralization under visible light irradiation. The as-prepared CN-FeNi-P presented a higher moxifloxacin degradation activity in photo-Fenton system, which was up to 3.7 times that of pristine CN, meanwhile, its TOC removal reached to 95.9 % in 60 min. Based on density functional theory calculations, the Ni single-atoms serve as the optimal reactive sites to produce •OH. The strong interaction between Fe and Ni single-atoms by P-bridging and the modulated local electron structure after introducing P into coordination environment can lower •OH formation energy. This study provides new doping strategies to design single-atom catalysts and expands the family of the Fenton-like system for advanced oxidation technologies.

RESUMO

OBJECTIVES: To establish a three-dimensional visualization model of percutaneous nephrolithotomy, apply it to guiding intraoperative puncture in a mixed reality environment, and evaluate its accuracy and clinical value. METHODS: Patients with percutaneous nephrolithotomy indications were prospectively divided into three-dimensional group and control group with a ratio of 1:2. For patients in three-dimensional group, positioning markers were pasted on the skin and enhanced computed tomography scanning was performed in the prone position. Holographic three-dimensional models were made and puncture routes were planned before operation. During the operation, the three-dimensional model was displayed through HoloLens glass and visually registered with the patient's body. Puncture of the target renal calyx was performed under three-dimensional-image guiding and ultrasonic monitoring. Patients in the control group underwent routine percutaneous nephrolithotomy in the prone position under the monitoring of B-ultrasound. Deviation distance of the kidney, puncture time, puncture attempts, channel coincidence rate, stone clearance rate, and postoperative complications were assessed. RESULTS: Twenty-one and 40 patients were enrolled in three-dimensional and control group, respectively. For three-dimensional group, the average deviation between virtual and real kidney was 3.1 ± 2.9 mm. All punctures were performed according to preoperative planning. Compared with the control group, the three-dimensional group had shorter puncture time (8.9 ± 3.3 vs 14.5 ± 6.1 min, P < 0.001), fewer puncture attempts (1.4 ± 0.6 vs 2.2 ± 1.5, P = 0.009), and might also have a better performance in stone clearance rate (90.5% vs 72.5%, P = 0.19) and postoperative complications (P = 0.074). CONCLUSIONS: The percutaneous nephrolithotomy three-dimensional model manifested acceptable accuracy and good value for guiding puncture in a mixed reality environment.

RESUMO

Atomically dispersed Fe and Co on carbon nitride under an external phosphine (PH3) atmosphere (P-Fe1Co1/CN) are prepared. Combined with the results of calculations and experiments, the formed P-induced bimetallic single atoms of Fe/Co-N4P2 can provide more reactive sites to enhance optical performance. Meanwhile, the introduced P can coordinate with Fe and Co and change the sole nitrogen coordination environment via the bridging effect. Herein, on the one hand, the structure of Fe-P-Co enhances interactions of single atoms in heterogeneous metals, and, on the other hand, the formed Fe/Co-N4P2 effectively changes the electron configuration in coordination centers. All of the abovementioned findings can enhance the photocatalytic performance of P-Fe1Co1/CN, achieving 96% removal and 51% debromination rates from tetrabromobisphenol A under visible light irradiation. The two efficiencies can be further improved under UV-vis light irradiation. The findings of this work reveal the dual roles of P in bimetallic single-atom catalysts, provide a facile method to synthesize P-assisted bimetal single-atom photocatalysts, and highlight the great potential of carbon nitride-based single atoms as photocatalysts.

RESUMO

Taenia solium cysts were collected from pig skeletal muscle and analyzed via a shotgun proteomic approach to identify known proteins in the cyst fluid and to explore host-parasite interactions. Cyst fluid was aseptically collected and analyzed with shotgun liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Gene alignment and annotation were performed using Blast2GO software followed by gene ontology analysis of the annotated proteins. The pathways were further analyzed with the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), and a protein-protein interaction (PPI) network map was generated using STRING software. A total of 158 known proteins were identified, most of which were low-molecular-mass proteins. These proteins were mainly involved in cellular and metabolic processes, and their molecular functions were predominantly related to catalytic activity and binding functions. The pathway enrichment analysis revealed that the known proteins were mainly enriched in the PI3K-Akt and glycolysis/gluconeogenesis signaling pathways. The nodes in the PPI network mainly consisted of enzymes involved in sugar metabolism. The cyst fluid proteins screened in this study may play important roles in the interaction between the cysticerci and the host. The shotgun LC-MS/MS, gene ontology, KEGG, and PPI network map data will be used to identify and analyze the cyst fluid proteome of cysticerci, which will provide a basis for further exploration of the invasion and activities of T. solium.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Osteoarthritis (OA) is degenerative joint disorder mainly characterized by long-term pain with limited activity of joints, the disease has no effective preventative therapy. Rutin (RUT) is a flavonoid compound, present naturally. The flavonoid shows range of biological activities such as anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer effect. We screened RUT for its activity against osteoarthritis with in vivo and in vitro models of osteoarthritis. METHODS: Animal model of OA was developed using C57BL/6 mice by surgical destabilization of medial meniscus. For in vitro studies the human articular cartilage tissues were used which were collected from osteoarthritis patients and were processed to isolate chondrocytes. The chondrocytes were submitted to advanced glycation end products (AGEs) for inducing osteoarthritis in vitro. Cell viability was done by CCK-8 assay, ELISA analysis for MMP13, collage II, PGE2, IL-6, TNF-α, ADAMTS-5 and MMP-13. Western blot analysis was done for expression of proteins and in silico analysis was done by docking studies. RESULTS: Pretreatment of RT showed no cytotoxic effect and also ameliorated the AGE mediated inflammatory reaction on human chondrocytes in vitro. Treatment of RT inhibited the levels of COX-2 and iNOS in AGE exposed chondrocytes. RT decreased the AGE mediated up-regulation of IL-6, NO, TNF-α and PGE-2 in a dose dependent manner. Pretreatment of RT decreased the extracellular matrix degradation, inhibited expression of TRAF-6 and BCL-2 the NF-κB/MAPK pathway proteins. The treatment of RT in mice prevented the calcification of cartilage tissues, loss of proteoglycans and also halted the narrowing of joint space is mice subjected to osteoarthritis. The in-silico analysis suggested potential binding affinity of RT with TRAF-6 and BCL-2. CONCLUSION: In brief RT inhibited AGE-induced inflammatory reaction and also degradation of ECM via targeting the NF-κB/MAPK pathway proteins BCL-2 and TRAF-6. RT can be a potential molecule in treating OA.

RESUMO

A novel porous loofah-sponge-like ternary heterojunction g-C3N4/Bi2WO6/MoS2 (CN-BM) was prepared via a facile method. The introduction of binary Bi2WO6/MoS2 into g-C3N4 could be qualified for constructing reasonable heterostructure while regulating photocatalysts morphology. Benefiting from the unique structure, the ternary heterojunction composites not only inhibited the agglomeration but also exhibited the prominent visible-light harvest capacity and abundant active sites, which could accelerate the photogenerated carriers separation and preserve the robust redox ability. The results showed that the optimized sample (CN-BM2) displayed the excellent degradation efficiency of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) under visible-light irradiation (over 99% within 60 min), and the fitted pseudo-first-order kinetic rate constant reached to 0.089 min-1, where it was 3.17 times than that of pure CN. Additionally, the radical scavenger experiments and electron spin resonance experiments indicated that the active species super-oxide radical and hole played a major role in the degradation experiment. The charge transfer mechanism was proposed and the main intermediates indicated that the active radicals attacked on the benzene ring and isoxazole ring in SMX, and further mineralized to inorganic molecules eventually.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Community engagement (CE) has been regarded as a critical element of successful health programs to achieve "the health for all" goals. Numerous studies have shown that it plays a significant role in reducing inequalities, improving social justice, enhancing benefits, and sharing responsibility towards public health. Despite this, the extant literature of community engagement in public health (CEPH) has topic-focused boundaries and is scattered across disciplinary. Large-scale studies are needed to systematically identify current status, hotspots, knowledge structure, dynamic trends, and future developments in this field. METHODS: The bibliometric techniques were applied in the analysis of publications on CEPH in Web of Science Core Collection from Thomson Reuters. One thousand one hundred two papers out of 70.8 million publications over the period of 1980 to 2020 and their 15,116 references were retrieved as the sample set. First, basic characteristics of publications, including distributions of geography, journals and categories, productive authors and frequently cited articles, etc. were obtained. Then, four bibliometric methods, i.e. social network analysis, co-citation analysis, co-occurrence clustering, and burst detection, were further conducted to sketch the contours of the structure and evolution of CEPH. RESULTS: Between Jan 1, 1980, and Apr 25, 2020, CEPH has attracted a sharp increase in interest all over the world. Total 117 countries or regions have participated in the field of CEPH and the contributions are geographically and institutionally distinct. The United States is the key region performing such research, which accounts for more than half of the total number of publications. Developing countries, such as South Africa, India, Brazil and China also contributed a lot. The advancements of CEPH are marked by historically momentous public health events and evolved from macroscopic strategies to mesoscopic and microscopic actions. Based on keyword clustering and co-citation clustering, we propose a 4O (i.e. orientation, object, operation, and outcome) framework of CEPH to facilitate a better understanding of the current global achievements and an elaborate structuring of developments in the future. CONCLUSION: This study draws an outline of the global review on the contemporary and cross-disciplinary research of CEPH which might present an opportunity to take stock and understand the march of knowledge as well as the logical venation underlying research activities which are fundamental to inform policy making.

RESUMO

This work presented a three-dimensional (3D) hierarchically microporous biochar (HMB) via molten alkali treatment that achieved efficient adsorption of perfluorinated carboxylic acids (PFCAs), which was a significant environment concern due to the global distribution and potential health risks. The systematic optimization of fabrication process rendered the HMB large surface area and uniform microporous structure, leading to a high adsorption capacity and adsorption rate of 1269 mg/g and 197 mg/(g·min), respectively, when perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) was as a representative. The adsorption mechanisms were explored via controlling the interaction between PFCAs and the HMB900-2.4. Specifically, hydrophobic effect was verified by the enhanced adsorption performance with the increase of the PFCAs homologues hydrophobicity. The observed highly pH-dependent adsorption capacity additionally suggested the dominant contribution of electrostatic interaction. For long-chain PFCAs (CnF2n+1COOH, n > 5), the HMB900-2.4 presented a high removal efficiency (> 90%) within 30 min. Even for short-chain PFCAs (CnF2n+1COOH, n = 4-5), the removal efficiency reached to over 60%. The synthesized HMB900-2.4 exhibited high stability during recycling experiments and superior performance over commercial adsorbents, suggested a promise of utilizing it to remove PFCAs from wastewater.

RESUMO

BACKGROUND: Renal cell carcinomas are usually unilateral. However, they are bilateral in 2% to 4% of sporadic cases and is considerably more common in familial cases. Synchronous sporadic bilateral multiple chromophobe renal cell carcinoma (CHRCC) with different subtypes is rare. CASE SUMMARY: In this case report, we describe a case of synchronous bilateral CHRCC with two histological variants, accompanied by a clear cell carcinoma and a cyst in a 50-year-old male. The patient underwent retroperitoneal laparoscopic bilateral nephron-sparing surgery and there was no serious postoperative renal dysfunction. CONCLUSION: We report a rare case of synchronous bilateral CHRCC with two histological variants associated with a clear cell carcinoma and a cyst.

RESUMO

A hydrothermal-annealing method was adopted to form nitrogen-doped graphene aerogel-supported molybdenum carbide (Mo2C/NGA) materials by using graphene oxide (GO), poly (propylene glycol) bis(2-aminopropyl ether) (D400 for short) and ammonium molybdate as precursors. The annealing temperature and GO/D400 wt ratio played an important role on the materials structure and electrocatalytic activity. When the annealing temperature reached to 800 °C, the Mo2C was formed as an active component and improved obviously the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) activity. After introducing the appropriate amount of D400, the Mo2C/NGA material not only had a firm porous monolithic framework, but also presented an increasing HER activity. Further, the Mo2C/NGA-based microbial fuel cells-ammonia electrolysis cell (MFCs-AEC) coupled system was constructed and operated for higher hydrogen production. The coupled system produced hydrogen of 198 mL g-1Mo2C/NGA in simulated ammonia-rich wastewater. As using the actual landfill leachate wastewater as substrate, there was 79.2 mL g-1Mo2C/NGA of hydrogen production. All of these were attributed to the porous structure with an interconnected network and the nitrogen-doped structure of the NGA.

RESUMO

The nematode Trichinella spiralis can cause immunoregulation during the early phase of infection. However, previous studies are still insufficient for a full understanding of this phenomenon and its underlying mechanism. In this study, immune cells and cytokine profiles of T. spiralis infected mice were examined by Meso Scale Discovery (MSD) and flow cytometry. The MSD results of the spleen showed that Th1 immunity was inhibited from 6 h to 6 days post-infection (dpi) and the level of Th2 immune response was significantly increased at 6 dpi. The mesenteric lymph node showed a Th1/Th2 mixed immune response from 3 dpi to 6 dpi with a downtrend of Th1 at 6 dpi. Flow cytometry analysis showed that the proportion of Th1 cells of T cells was decreased significantly at 6 h after infection, the proportion of Th2 cells was markedly increased, indicating that Th1 immunity was significantly inhibited at 6 h after infection, and a hybrid immune response based on Th2 type was presented from 30 h to 6 dpi. The immunoregulation effects observed during this study have provided a better understanding of the development of the immune response induced by Trichinella infection.

A sediment microbial fuel cell electro-Fenton (SMFC-E-Fenton) system was proposed in this study by utilizing the biological electrons produced from an SMFC to power an E-Fenton process. Antibiotics with different absorbability in both aqueous and solid phase can be removed by this system at room temperature and pressure condition, without external power or other chemical reagents. γ-FeOOH graphene polyacrylamide carbonized aerogel (γ-FeOOH GPCA) with high electrochemically active surface area (EASA), good conductivity and stable electrochemical activity were used as the cathode. After 40 h treatment, the total degradation rate of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) and norfloxacin (NOR) were 97.4 ±â€¯2.9% and 96.1 ±â€¯3.0%, respectively. Compared with the sludge digestion system, the residual SMX and NOR in sludge declined from 10.2 ±â€¯1.5% to 1.1 ±â€¯1.2% and from 31.3 ±â€¯1.8% to 3.1 ±â€¯1.3%, respectively. The E-Fenton process can also promote electricity production and sludge reduction efficiency of SMFC, as the maximum power density SMFC-E-Fenton system reached 472.21 ±â€¯11.5 mW m-2 and 431.39 ±â€¯15.6 mWm-2, respectively. 6.2 ±â€¯0.3% and 5.7 ±â€¯0.8% of the initial sludge was reduced while treating SMX and NOR.
